Best LLC services in North Carolina (2026)

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

On our rating, Tailor Brands leads the North Carolina list at 8.7 out of ten. Its Elite plan totals $374 in year one with the $125 state fee, and its plan lists annual report filing. The smallest first-year bill comes from Inc Authority: $125, equal to the state fee. From the second year, every North Carolina LLC also owes the annual report fee of $200 by paper or $203 online, which every second-year total below includes.1, 2

How are LLC services for North Carolina ordered?

The list follows our rating, highest first. Where two providers tie, they appear in our editorial order.

North Carolina is a state where both columns of the table can be filled in. The first-year figure adds the $125 filing fee for the Articles of Organization (Form L-01) to the plan we compare. The second-year figure adds the state's annual report fee, at the paper rate, to whatever the plan renews at. Neither column counts trial items that start billing later or a registered agent that renews after a free period; both are covered further down.1, 3

The ties are Bizee (formerly Incfile) and ZenBusiness at 8.0, and BizFilings and Rocket Lawyer at 6.8. Our rating combines customer satisfaction, services and dashboard, and plan value, and none of those parts changes by state. The weights are in how we rate.

Second year: the recurring North Carolina report fee as the state lists it (some states charge it every two years) plus the plan's renewal, if it renews. Registered agent renewals are extra unless the plan includes the agent for good.

Read the second-year column with the plan type in mind. Plans billed yearly, such as Tailor Brands Elite at $449 and ZenBusiness Premium at $499, renew the plan price on top of the report fee. One-time plans, such as LegalZoom Managed Service, show only the state fee in year two ($200). Those two yearly plans list annual report filing, while the one-time plans we compare don't include ongoing report filing for good. Over both years and before state fees, Tailor Brands comes to $498, ZenBusiness to $598 and doola to $594. The ranking by cost across both years orders every provider that way.

Which North Carolina LLC service fits which need?

The picks below each rest on one published fact, and each fact changes the answer for a different reader. Start with the need you care about most.

Each line is decided by the published fact it names. First-time founder support counts an annual report filed for you, business coaching and AI guidance; the all-in-one count is the business service types a provider sells nationally.

Annual report filed for you

North Carolina's deadline and penalty give this category extra weight. The state wants a yearly report, due April 15 each year, starting the year after formation, and failure to file within 60 days after the due date is grounds for administrative dissolution. A plan that files it for you takes that deadline off your calendar, though the state's own fee is still owed.2, 4

Other providers sell the filing per report. Northwest Registered Agent charges $100 + state fees each time it files, LegalZoom lists a one-time filing at $99 + state filing fees, and InCorp Services charges $89 + state fees. Swyft Filings puts a trial in every plan instead. Every LLC plan includes a 14-day trial of ComplianceGuard, then $199/year auto-charged unless cancelled. Because the first North Carolina report isn't due until the following year, a trial that short ends well before the first filing, so the ongoing price is the one to weigh.8, 9, 10, 11

First-time founders

We count three supports for a first-time founder: an annual report filed for you, business coaching from a person, and AI guidance. Tailor Brands includes all three supports, with report filing on Essential and Elite, its Business Coaching Program on every plan, and Navi, its AI assistant, about which it says "Every plan comes with Navi built in." ZenBusiness includes all three supports: report filing on Pro and Premium, Personal Velo AI guidance on all plans, and a one-on-one consultation on Premium. doola includes two of the three supports, pairing report filing on its upper plans with its AI Co-Founder assistant. The first-time founders ranking shows each provider's mix.12, 13, 14, 15

Lowest first-year total in North Carolina

Inc Authority Free LLC costs $125 in North Carolina, no more than filing alone. The catch arrives a year later, when its free registered agent renews automatically at $249/year, a charge larger than the state's report fee for the same year. Refunds follow a 60-day money-back guarantee on initial online purchase, less state/third-party filing fees. Second is Northwest Registered Agent at $164.16, 17

Northwest's included agent renews at $125/yr, and agent customers are enrolled in its report filing service, billed at $100 + state fees each time it files, so an owner who plans to file the North Carolina report alone can cancel it before the next charge date. The cheapest services list and the Inc Authority profile give more detail.8, 18

Fastest stated filing

Tailor Brands and ZenBusiness both state 1 business day for their compared plans, and Inc Authority states 24 hours. That is the provider's own preparation and submission time. The state's review comes after, listed at 5 to 10 business days, unless someone pays North Carolina's expedite fee. The fastest providers list compares stated times.19

Agent included with the plan

An LLC without a registered agent or office for 60+ days faces grounds for administrative dissolution, and the agent's address is listed on every North Carolina annual report. A few compared plans cover the agent at first, and the renewal price is what decides the long-run cost.4

Bizee (formerly Incfile) gives a free agent year with any formation package and charges $149/year after that. Northwest Registered Agent works the same way, then bills $125/yr. doola lists the agent inside Starter, a plan billed yearly, and doesn't state a separate end date for it. By contrast, Tailor Brands prices its agent on its own at $199/year, and ZenBusiness takes 50% off the first year ($99) when it also forms the LLC. The agent-included ranking sorts these plans by price.18, 20, 21, 22

One provider for later services

A founder who expects to buy a website, bookkeeping or a business address later may prefer a provider that sells many such services. We track 10 types. Tailor Brands and LegalZoom sell 9 apiece, and Bizee (formerly Incfile) and ZenBusiness sell 7 apiece. The all-in-one ranking orders providers by that count.

Founders outside the U.S.

Several providers address owners who live abroad, in different ways. doola says it can help a non-resident without a US SSN and puts a US business address in Starter. LegalZoom lists getting an EIN without a Social Security number as included in Pro and Premium, while Northwest Registered Agent charges $200 for that service. Tailor Brands links a sign-up flow for non-US citizens from its formation page without stating eligibility terms. North Carolina's own rules for the agent still apply, so an owner abroad needs a service or an in-state individual to serve. The non-U.S. founders ranking lists every provider's stated position.23, 24, 25, 26, 27

What does North Carolina charge no matter who files?

North Carolina charges $125 to file the Articles and, from the next year on, $200 by paper or $203 online for each annual report. No plan we compare includes the formation fee in its price.1, 2

The expedite fees are the state's, not the service's. North Carolina offers $100 for filing within 24 hours (weekends and holidays excluded), or $200 for same-business-day filing if received by 12:00 noon ET. Bizee (formerly Incfile) lists Expedited Filing in its compared plan without saying whether that pays the state's expedite fee, so ask any service what its rush option covers before paying for it.28, 29

None of the compared plans says it pays the annual report fee for you, so the second-year totals above add it for every provider, including plans that list report filing.

What else should North Carolina buyers check?

Check two things before buying: whose names and addresses the annual report puts on file, and which plan items start billing after a trial.

The report lists the names/titles/addresses of principal company officials, plus the Registered agent and office. An agent service puts its own address in the agent field, but the officials' business addresses stay on the report, so a home address used there ends up on a state filing.30

Trial items can raise the first-year bill after checkout. Tailor Brands Elite includes a bookkeeping trial that bills $39/month afterwards, and LegalZoom lists, for Managed Service, that its Business Advisor Plan auto-renews at $49/mo after 30 days. The LegalZoom pricing page and the ZenBusiness profile list what each tier bills after a trial.31, 32

Can you form a North Carolina LLC without a service?

Yes. The state accepts filings straight from owners, online, where the state's system works by creating a new online filing based on a series of questions and answers, or on paper by mail, and you pay only the $125 filing fee.1, 33

Without a service, you pick the agent yourself; N.C. Gen. Stat. § 55D-30 lets an individual serve if this fits: "An individual who resides in this State and whose business office is identical with the registered office." It also means remembering the report each spring. The North Carolina formation guide covers each filing and form, and the cost calculator shows what a plan adds in each year.34

North Carolina LLC service questions

Does any service include the North Carolina filing fee?

No. The $125 state fee sits on top of every compared plan, even the ones with no service charge. The totals on this page already add it, which is why Inc Authority shows $125.1

Which services file the North Carolina annual report for me?

Tailor Brands lists report filing on Essential and Elite, ZenBusiness on Pro and Premium, and doola on its plans above Starter. Northwest Registered Agent, LegalZoom and InCorp Services sell the filing separately. Our totals add the state's report fee in every case.

What does a North Carolina LLC cost in the second year with a service?

It is the annual report fee of $200 by paper or $203 online, plus any plan or agent renewal. Yearly plans such as Tailor Brands Elite come to $449, while one-time plans such as LegalZoom Managed Service show $200 before agent or trial charges.2

Which service is cheapest for a North Carolina LLC?

Inc Authority has the lowest first-year total, $125, equal to the state fee. Its agent then renews at $249/year unless cancelled. Northwest Registered Agent follows at $164, with an agent renewing at $125/yr.16, 18

Can a service get my North Carolina LLC approved faster?

A service's stated speed covers its own preparation and submission; the state's review is separate unless its expedite fee is paid. North Carolina charges $100 for filing within a day and $200 for same-business-day filing. Ask whether a service's rush price includes those state fees.28
