Rocket Lawyer LLC formation review (2026)

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

Rocket Lawyer forms an LLC as part of a yearly membership: Standard at $149/year ($12.41/month, billed yearly), Plus at $249/year ($20.75/month, billed yearly) and Pro at $349/year ($29.08/month, billed yearly). Each covers the filing service for your first business ("Your first one is FREE with a Rocket Lawyer membership!"), and a later one is $99 + state fees; the state fee is paid on top either way. The registered agent is an extra $125 a year and needs Plus or Pro. On our rating Rocket Lawyer scores 6.8 out of ten, judged on its Standard membership.1, 2

Satisfaction is its strongest part, drawn from a Trustpilot score of 4.5 / 5, 9,838 reviews. Plan value is the weakest. Our method scores a plan on what it keeps, what it costs across the first and second year, and its stated filing speed, and Rocket Lawyer states no filing time, so it earns nothing on speed. Cost works against it too: a membership renews every year, so Standard membership costs $298 across the first and second year before state fees, while several rivals charge a single formation fee. That plan keeps 4 of the services our method counts for good: attorney access, the legal document library, business guidance and branding tools.3

BizFilings holds the same overall rating (6.8) and is listed ahead of Rocket Lawyer by our tie rule. The weights, parts and tie order are set out on the rating method page.

Who do Rocket Lawyer memberships fit?

Rocket Lawyer fits an owner who wants a standing legal service, with attorney questions, contract review and document templates, and is content to have the LLC filing come bundled with it rather than bought on its own.

The formation step is the same on every tier, so the choice between them comes down to the extras around it.

Some readers fit poorly. A founder who wants to pay once and be done will find that every tier bills yearly. Anyone who needs a stated filing time won't find one, because Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish a processing time or a rush option. And a founder outside the U.S. has nothing to go on here: our record holds no Rocket Lawyer statement about non-resident owners or an EIN without a Social Security number. Providers that do publish one are on the non-U.S. founders list.

What does each Rocket Lawyer membership include?

All three memberships share the same core: name research, the registration offer, AI legal Q&A, documents with e-signing, contract review, reminders and a name and logo generator. They differ on lawyer access and allowed add-ons.

Standard is shown as $12.41/month but billed once a year. Its attorney feature is a written reply, with a stated written response within 1 business day, up to the Standard cap. The AI assistant gives AI-powered answers to unlimited questions. Contract review is a separate tool: a member uploads a contract and can then see a list of key terms and red flags. The document library covers unlimited documents on all three tiers.1

Plus at $249/year ($20.75/month, billed yearly) adds live attorney calls on top of a higher written-question cap. Pro at $349/year ($29.08/month, billed yearly) lists both attorney features with no limit listed. Neither tier puts an EIN, a registered agent or a filed annual report into the price; those stay as add-ons.1

What the registration offer covers

Rocket Lawyer words the LLC offer as "Your first one is FREE with a Rocket Lawyer membership!" A second business, such as another LLC or a corporation, is $99 + state fees. Rocket Lawyer says the offer requires a current membership and leaves out government and third-party fees, so the state filing fee is paid on top at every tier. Our state fee table lists those fees.1

Add-ons by tier

The EIN service is $70 for Plus and Pro members; the pricing page shows it as "Not included" on Standard. The registered agent is $125 for the same two tiers. Annual report filing is Pro-only. A Standard member who later wants any of these has to move up a tier first, which raises the yearly fee. The Rocket Lawyer pricing page adds these up by tier for the first and second year.2, 5

What renews, and how do refunds and cancelling work?

Each membership renews at its plan price every year: $149/yr (billed yearly) on Standard, $249/yr (billed yearly) on Plus and $349/yr (billed yearly) on Pro. New members start with a free 7-day trial before the first yearly charge.1

That renewal is the main thing to plan for. A Standard member who keeps the membership pays $149/yr (billed yearly) again in year two, even if the only thing they used was the LLC filing. A Plus or Pro member who also took the agent adds its yearly charge. Recurring state charges, such as an annual report fee or franchise tax, depend on the state and sit outside every tier; the LLC cost guide shows how they stack.1

Refunds have a short window. Rocket Lawyer's terms say that, except where state law allows otherwise, "all refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase." Our record adds that there are none on annual plans after 30 days.6

All three tiers get the general legal reminders, which cover important contract changes and deadlines; Rocket Lawyer doesn't say those reminders track state report due dates. Filing the report for you is a Pro add-on at $100 with Pro membership.1, 4

Our record lists phone as the support channel, with published hours of Monday-Friday, 6 am-6 pm PT. Rocket Lawyer has operated since 2008, and the BBB shows it as A+ , accredited.7, 8, 9

How fast does Rocket Lawyer file an LLC?

No Rocket Lawyer membership lists a processing time, so there is no provider turnaround to compare against other services.

Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish a rush or expedite option.

Without a stated time, the only published clock is the state's own review, which differs widely by state. Our LLC timeline guide covers state review times, and a state page such as forming an LLC in Texas shows one state's processing and expedite options. Providers that state a turnaround are ordered on the fastest filing list.

Can you get a registered agent from Rocket Lawyer?

Yes, but only with Plus or Pro. The service is $125 a year on top of the membership, and the price block reads "Requires Rocket Lawyer Plus or Pro membership," so a Standard member has to upgrade or use another agent.2

Rocket Lawyer lists its registered agent service at $125 with a Plus or Pro membership. Every LLC needs a registered agent in its state; plans that include one say so above.

A registered agent is the person or company named on the state record to accept lawsuits and official notices for the LLC. The service is offered in all 50 states. Its terms let the agent scan, upload and transmit papers to the member's email and account, and the agent page says, "We'll forward all state legal documents directly to you."2, 6

The terms say the service will automatically renew for successive 1-year terms. It must be canceled prior to the renewal date to avoid recurring annual charges, by phone at (877) 881-0947, and the owner must also file change-of-agent paperwork with the state. Our record doesn't say whether ending the membership also ends the agent service, so the two may need separate cancellations. Providers that put an agent inside the formation price are on the registered agent included list.6

How does Rocket Lawyer compare with other services?

Three head-to-heads set Rocket Lawyer beside a formation-first service: LegalZoom vs Rocket Lawyer, ZenBusiness vs Rocket Lawyer and Northwest vs Rocket Lawyer.

The Rocket Lawyer alternatives page sorts other providers by the reason a reader might choose differently, and the every-plan table lists all tiers from the 12 providers we compare.

Rocket Lawyer questions

Is LLC formation free with Rocket Lawyer?

The filing service is free for your first business while you hold a membership, but the membership itself costs at least $149/year ($12.41/month, billed yearly) after the free 7-day trial. The state filing fee is charged on top. A later business is $99 + state fees.1

Does Rocket Lawyer include a registered agent?

No membership includes one. The agent is a $125 yearly add-on, available only with Plus or Pro, and it renews on its own term until cancelled by phone.2

Does Rocket Lawyer file my annual report?

Only as a Pro add-on, priced at $100 with Pro membership, excluding state fees. Standard and Plus include general legal reminders but not the filing service, and Rocket Lawyer doesn't say those reminders cover state report dates.4

Can I cancel Rocket Lawyer after my LLC is formed?

You can cancel, but the free registration offer requires a current membership, and the terms state that all refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase. The agent service, if you bought it, is cancelled by phone at (877) 881-0947, and its terms say the owner must also file change-of-agent paperwork with the state.1, 6

How many attorney questions does each Rocket Lawyer plan allow?

Standard lists Ask an Attorney with a cap (Limit 12). Plus lists Ask an Attorney (Limit 36) plus Consult an Attorney Live (Limit 12). Pro lists both with no limit listed.1

How does Rocket Lawyer rate on Trustpilot?

It shows 4.5 / 5, 9,838 reviews on Trustpilot, which feeds the satisfaction part of our rating (9). Its overall rating of 6.8 is lower mainly because of plan value (2.7), where an unstated filing time and yearly billing both count against it.3
