Northwest charges $39 to file an LLC, once, and the state's filing fee comes on top. Northwest's formation service page lists the first year of its registered agent service as free, and the agent then renews at $125 per year. Annual report filing is billed separately at $100 + state fees each time it's filed, and an EIN is an extra $50 for owners with a Social Security number.1, 2, 3, 4
What is in the Northwest formation price?
There is a single tier, quoted as $39 + state fees. Northwest doesn't publish a higher plan that adds an EIN or compliance filing; those are bought one at a time.1
The card below lists each item Northwest names for that price. A clock marks the ones that stop being free after a set period.
Northwest LLC formation

Two lines on the card carry a later price. The agent line reads "Free for first year, just $125/yr after", and the business address stays free only while the agent service is active, since Northwest describes it as a "free business address with Registered Agent Service ($125/year)".1, 5
Everything else on the card carries no stated later charge. The operating agreement appears on the list as "Operating agreement or bylaws", and the legal form templates, reminders, phone line and brand protection appear without a price.1
What the fee leaves out, with Northwest's price for each, is listed here.
Under our method the compared plan is Northwest LLC formation, and it counts 3 services as included for good; Northwest rates 6.9 out of ten overall. The Northwest review explains why the low fee doesn't lift that score much.
One page quotes a different price
Northwest's formation, LLC and services pages all show $39 + state fees. Its start-a-business page instead says "Start your business for $100 plus state fees" with a year of agent service. Our record treats the lower figure as current. The agent year is stated on the formation service page, and our record notes "The LLC page does not say RA is included", so the order summary is where a buyer sees whether it applies.1, 6
What does Northwest cost in the second year?
The $39 formation charge never repeats. Year two with Northwest is the agent renewal ($125/yr after year 1), plus a report filing fee in any year the state's report falls due, plus the state's own charges.1
Northwest LLC formation: None for the formation fee; included registered agent renews at $125/yr after year 1
The report service is easy to miss. Northwest enrolls agent customers in it automatically, and our record says it is billed in annual auto-pay. A founder who files the state report alone needs to opt out, and our record notes that a customer must cancel at least one business day before next charge date.7
How often the report fee lands depends on the state, because report schedules and state fees differ from one state to the next. Our state pages, such as forming an LLC in Texas, list each state's schedule.
Mail can add charges too. Ordinary mail is scanned free up to 5 docs per year, and for legal papers Northwest says "a fee may be applied to your account for Legal Documents received above the current 15 per year limit". When a scan fails, an original can be posted to you for a fee, within 30 days of original receipt; the amount isn't published.2, 8
Refunds don't reach far back. Purchases become non-refundable after 90 days, and the state's filing fee is never refunded.7
Does Northwest sell rush filing?
No. Northwest doesn't publish a rush or expedite option for LLC formation, and it doesn't publish a standard processing time.
That means there's no Northwest line to add for speed. Some states sell their own expedite on the state filing, which is a state charge whoever files. The LLC timeline guide covers how long state review takes, and the fastest filing list shows providers that state a turnaround or sell a rush.
Are state fees included in the Northwest price?
No. Northwest describes its fee as $39 "plus whatever your state charges", so the state's filing fee is a second charge on the same order.1
The median state LLC filing fee across the states we track is $100. The state fee table lists every state, and the cost calculator adds Northwest's fee to the state's.
Is the Northwest formation fee the full first-year cost?
No. The state filing fee is added, and an EIN through Northwest adds $50. Other state costs in the first year depend on where you form, which our LLC cost guide explains.4
How much does Northwest charge after the free agent year?
The registered agent renews at $125 per year. If the automatic report service stays on, each filing adds $100 + state fees.2, 3
Does Northwest charge for the operating agreement?
No. Northwest's operating agreement page says the template "is not only free but also painstakingly written in a language that you can actually understand", and "Operating agreement or bylaws" is listed among the items in the formation fee.1, 9
Are there monthly fees with Northwest?
Not on the formation plan. The only monthly products in our record are Mail Forwarding at $20/month and a Virtual Office at $29 /month, both optional and sold in 24 select states.5
