Best LLC services in Alabama (2026)

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

On our rating, Tailor Brands ranks first for an Alabama LLC with a rating of 8.7, and its Elite plan totals $449 in year one with the $200 filing fee. Inc Authority has the lowest first-year total, $200, which is the filing fee by itself. Alabama also requires a name reservation before filing ($25 by mail), which none of these totals include, and the yearly return (Form PPT) goes to the Department of Revenue.1, 2, 3

How is the Alabama list put in order?

Providers appear by our rating, highest first. When two share a rating, they stay in our editorial order, which starts with Tailor Brands, then Bizee (formerly Incfile), then ZenBusiness, then the rest by name.

That tie rule applies twice in Alabama. Bizee (formerly Incfile) and ZenBusiness share 8.0, and BizFilings and Rocket Lawyer share 6.8. Our rating weighs customer satisfaction, the services and dashboard a provider offers, and plan value; the state doesn't change any of the three. The full method is on the how we rate page.

Ordered by our rating, highest first; ties in our editorial order. Totals add the Alabama state fees to each provider's compared plan.

Second year: the recurring Alabama report fee as the state lists it (some states charge it every two years) plus the plan's renewal, if it renews. Registered agent renewals are extra unless the plan includes the agent for good.

Read the first-year column with one Alabama rule in mind. Each figure adds only the $200 formation fee to the plan. The Secretary of State's LLC page sets the order: "You must obtain a Certificate of Name Reservation" before the formation documents are filed. So a do-it-yourself filer or a service has to pay $25 by mail ($28 online for non-subscribers) on top. Ask a service whether its price covers that certificate. If it doesn't, add the fee to the row.1, 2

No row has a second-year total. Alabama's recurring charge is the business privilege tax, which is based on net worth, and the state doesn't publish a flat amount to add. What can be compared is the plan alone across both years, before any state charge. Tailor Brands Elite comes to $498, ZenBusiness Premium to $598, Swyft Filings Standard to $199, and doola Starter to $594. Those figures leave out agent renewals and items that start billing after a trial. The ranking by cost across both years puts every provider in that order.3

Which Alabama LLC service suits which founder?

The picks below are decided by one published fact each, shown with the pick. Under them, each need gets the Alabama detail that changes or limits it.

Each line is decided by the published fact it names. First-time founder support counts an annual report filed for you, business coaching and AI guidance; the all-in-one count is the business service types a provider sells nationally.

Lowest first-year total

Inc Authority Free LLC comes to $200 in Alabama, the same amount you would pay filing alone. Its plan includes a registered agent for the first year, and that agent then bills $249/year every year until cancelled. The provider lists a 60-day money-back guarantee on initial online purchase, less state/third-party filing fees. Northwest Registered Agent has the next lowest total, $239, and its agent renews at $125/yr. Both totals still need the name certificate added. The cheapest services list orders providers by plan price nationally, and the Inc Authority profile lists what its free plan leaves out.4, 5, 6

Fastest stated filing

Tailor Brands and ZenBusiness each state 1 business day on the compared plan, and Inc Authority states 24 hours. That is the provider's own preparation time. Alabama doesn't publish a paid expedite tier or a standard review time, so no service can say when the Alabama Secretary of State, Business Services Division will approve the filing. Bizee (formerly Incfile) lists Expedited Filing in its compared plan without saying what that means for Alabama. The fastest services list and the formation timeline guide explain the gap between a service's clock and the state's.7

First-time founders

We count three supports for a first-time owner: the recurring state filing done for you, coaching from a person, and AI guidance. Tailor Brands includes all three supports, with mandatory report filing on Essential and Elite, its Business Coaching Program, and Navi, an AI assistant built into every plan. ZenBusiness includes all three supports: filing of state-required annual reports on Pro and Premium, Personal Velo AI guidance, and a one-on-one consultation on Premium. doola includes two of the three supports, with Annual State Report Filing on its higher plans and its AI Co-Founder.8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

There is an Alabama catch. The yearly filing here is a tax return, Form PPT, sent to the Department of Revenue, and none of these plans says whether its report filing covers it. See the notes section below. The first-time founders list covers every provider.3

All-in-one platform

Tailor Brands and LegalZoom each sell 9 of the 10 business service types we track, such as bookkeeping, websites and legal documents. Bizee (formerly Incfile) and ZenBusiness sell 7. A service sold is often an add-on or a trial rather than part of the plan. The all-in-one platforms list has the full count.

Registered agent in the plan

Alabama lets an individual who is a resident of this state serve as the agent, or a domestic entity or a foreign entity that is registered to transact business in this state. An owner living elsewhere can't fill the role personally, so the agent terms in a plan carry more weight for that owner.15

Tailor Brands sells the agent on its own at $199/year, and ZenBusiness offers 50% off the first year ($99) with formation. Switching agents later costs $100 in Alabama, so the renewal price is worth checking before you sign up. The agent included list ranks plans that bundle one.21, 22, 23

Founders outside the U.S.

doola says it can help a non-resident without a US SSN, and its Starter plan adds a US business address as well as the agent. Tailor Brands links a sign-up flow for non-US citizens from its formation page but publishes no eligibility rules. For owners without a Social Security number, Northwest Registered Agent charges $200 to get the EIN. The non-U.S. founders list compares the rest.24, 25, 26, 27

What does Alabama charge whether or not you use a service?

Alabama charges $200 for the Certificate of Formation and $25 by mail for the name certificate that must come first, whoever files. The totals in the ranked table add only the formation fee.1, 2

The table labels the name reservation optional, but that label doesn't fit Alabama. The Alabama Secretary of State, Business Services Division requires the certificate before formation, so count it as a fixed cost here: $25 by mail, or $28 online for non-subscribers.2

After formation, the state's costs move to the Department of Revenue. The first return is Form BPT-IN, due within 2.5 months after the LLC organizes, and the yearly one is Form PPT, due 2.5 months after the start of the tax year (March 15 for calendar-year LLCs). The tax is based on net worth, and tax due of $100 or less is fully exempt and no return is required. A small LLC may owe nothing and file nothing, but that depends on its own figures, so an accountant should confirm it. No formation service removes this tax.3, 28

Who files the Alabama privilege tax return?

Formation services sell annual report filing, but in Alabama the yearly filing is a combined tax return and report, and none of the plans we compare says it covers Form PPT.3

That gap shows up across providers. Tailor Brands Elite lists mandatory report filing. ZenBusiness lists state-required annual reports on its higher plans. Northwest Registered Agent sells report filing at $100 + state fees, charged at each filing. LegalZoom lists a one-time annual report filing at $99 + state filing fees, and Swyft Filings includes a ComplianceGuard trial and then bills $199/year. None of those listings names the Department of Revenue. Before relying on any of them for Alabama, ask in writing whether the service prepares the Department of Revenue return or only reminds you of it.8, 11, 29, 30, 31

Trial items also change what year one costs. Tailor Brands Elite includes a bookkeeping trial that later bills $39/month. LegalZoom lists a condition on its Managed Service plan, where the Business Advisor Plan auto-renews at $49/mo after 30 days. The LegalZoom pricing page and the Tailor Brands pricing page show what bills after each trial ends.32, 33

Can you form an Alabama LLC without a service?

Yes. You can file the Certificate of Formation yourself, online or by mail, and pay only the state fees, starting with the $200 filing fee.1

Filing yourself in Alabama takes two state documents in order: the name certificate, then the Certificate of Formation.

The state refuses email filings; the form says it will not be accepted via email. You also need an agent who meets the residency rule, which can be you if you live in Alabama. The trade-off is that your own street address goes in the agent field. The Alabama formation guide walks through each filing, and the cost calculator shows what a plan adds to the state fees.34

Alabama LLC service questions

Do the Alabama totals include the name reservation?

No. Each first-year total adds the $200 formation fee to the plan price, but Alabama also requires a name certificate first, at $25 by mail. Add it unless the provider confirms it pays that fee for you.1, 2

What is the cheapest way to form an Alabama LLC with a service?

Inc Authority Free LLC totals $200, the formation fee alone. Its included agent then renews at $249/year unless you cancel. Northwest Registered Agent is next at $239, with an agent that renews at $125/yr.4, 6

Will a formation service file my Alabama Form PPT?

None of the compared plans says so. Plans that list annual report filing describe state reports, while Alabama's yearly filing is a privilege tax return with the Department of Revenue, due March 15 for calendar-year LLCs. Ask the provider directly.28

Does any service speed up the Alabama state review?

Services state their own preparation time, such as 1 business day for Tailor Brands. Alabama doesn't publish a paid expedite option or a review time, so no service's stated time covers the state's part.

What does an Alabama LLC cost in its second year with a service?

It is the plan renewal, any agent renewal, and the privilege tax. The tax is based on net worth, and tax due of $100 or less is fully exempt and no return is required, so an accountant can tell you which side of that line your LLC falls on.3

Can I be my own agent in Alabama instead of paying a service?

Yes, if you are an individual who is a resident of this state. The agent's office must be a street address in Alabama where legal papers can be handed to you.15
