LLC services that include an EIN (2026)

Facts checked October 13 to 16, 2026.

An EIN, the federal tax number for a business, is free from the IRS, so a plan that includes one charges for the application, not for the number. Bizee (formerly Incfile) Standard, ZenBusiness Pro, Swyft Filings Standard and BizFilings Core each include it at $199 before state fees. LegalZoom lists its Managed Service with the EIN at $249, and doola Starter includes it for $297/yr. Several other providers sell the EIN only as an add-on.1, 2, 3

How is the list of plans with an EIN ordered?

Each provider appears once, with its lowest-priced plan that lists the EIN as a permanent item, and the providers run from the cheapest of those plans to the most expensive.

Four plans share the price of $199, so our rating settles their order. Bizee (formerly Incfile) and ZenBusiness both score 8.0 and follow our editorial tie order; Swyft Filings comes next at 7.7 and BizFilings after it at 6.8. Price wins over rating everywhere else. LegalZoom scores 8.1, above all four, yet sits fifth because its plan costs more.4

An EIN sold as an add-on doesn't put a provider on the list, and neither does a mention on a marketing page that the plan itself doesn't repeat. The rating method explains how the scores behind the tie order are built.

What are you paying for when the IRS issues an EIN for free?

You pay a provider to fill in and submit the IRS application for you, since the IRS charges nothing and issues the number online at once when it approves a request.

The IRS is direct about price: free; the IRS never charges a fee for an EIN. The online route works like this: apply with the IRS online tool; if approved, the EIN is issued immediately online. Two limits apply. The tool asks for the responsible party's SSN or ITIN, and the IRS allows only 1 EIN per responsible party per day; the applicant must be the responsible party or its authorized representative.5

So the service has the most to offer an owner without an SSN or ITIN, or one who wants the EIN handled in the same order as the formation filing. For an owner abroad the IRS route is different: a business whose principal place of business is outside the U.S. applies by phone (267-941-1099, Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern) or submits Form SS-4 by fax or mail.6

Not every LLC needs its own number right away. The IRS rule is that a single-member LLC needs its own EIN if it has any employees or must file certain excise tax forms; otherwise it generally uses the owner's SSN or EIN for income tax. The EIN guide goes through who needs one and when.7

Is buying the EIN separately cheaper than a plan that includes it?

At several providers the EIN costs less on its own than the step up to the plan that includes it, but the higher plan usually adds other items too, so the comparison depends on what else you would buy.

At Bizee (formerly Incfile), going from Basic at $0 to Standard adds the EIN and an Operating Agreement, among other items. Bizee's own page says its Standard and Premium Packages include this service for free. On Basic, the EIN alone is $70.1, 8, 20

ZenBusiness works differently. Its Starter plan is a one-time $0, while Pro brings the EIN and Ongoing filing compliance (state-required annual reports, up to 2 amendments/yr) but is billed every year at $199/yr. A Starter customer can buy the EIN for $99 one-time instead.9, 10, 21

Which plans with an EIN bill again in year two?

ZenBusiness Pro and doola Starter are yearly plans, so their price comes back each year. Bizee (formerly Incfile), Swyft Filings and LegalZoom describe the plan price as a one-time charge, and BizFilings lists Core with no renewal charge.

A one-time plan can still bill later. LegalZoom lists Managed Service as a single formation fee, but its Business Advisor Plan auto-renews at $49/mo after 30 days unless cancelled. Swyft Filings Standard includes a ComplianceGuard trial that becomes $199/year after a 14-day free trial.2, 22

Agents bundled for a limited time renew too. Bizee's plan fee is a single charge ("our formation fee is one-time"), yet the agent in Standard bills $149/year after its first year. BizFilings Core includes 3 months free Registered Agent Services, and the agent then costs $220/yr.11, 20, 23, 24

doola doesn't state a renewal price; its terms say the plan renews at rates then in effect. The list ranked by cost through year two and the cost calculator put these charges side by side.25

What does the EIN list leave out?

It leaves out providers that sell the EIN only as an add-on or describe it loosely, and it doesn't show which services can get an EIN for an owner without a Social Security number.

Tailor Brands. Its LLC page says "we'll help you get your EIN (tax ID)", and it sells an EIN filing service. The product-pricing plan cards don't list EIN, though, and the price isn't published, so none of its plans qualifies here. The Tailor Brands review lists what its plans do include.18

Inc Authority. Its comparison table shows "$0 Business Tax ID" beside the Free LLC. The EIN isn't among the plan items we could confirm, so it stays off the list, and the standalone service is listed at $49. The Inc Authority review has the plan's other terms.14, 26

Owners without an SSN. BizFilings' EIN service requires an SSN or ITIN. Northwest Registered Agent charges $200 without SSN, against $50 (with SSN) for owners who have one. LegalZoom's page for founders abroad says it delivers the EIN without the need for a Social Security Number, and doola Starter includes the EIN in its yearly price. The list for founders outside the U.S. compares those providers.12, 16, 27

Speed. The list doesn't sort by filing time. The fastest filing list does, for the formation step.

LLC plans with an EIN, answered

Is an EIN free if I apply myself?

Yes. The IRS says the number is free; the IRS never charges a fee for an EIN, and an owner with an SSN or ITIN can apply online and receive the number online straight away if approved. A plan that includes the EIN charges for doing that application for you.5

What is the cheapest LLC plan that includes an EIN?

Four plans include it at $199 before state fees: Bizee (formerly Incfile) Standard, ZenBusiness Pro, Swyft Filings Standard and BizFilings Core. Of those, ZenBusiness Pro is the one that lists a yearly plan charge, at $199/yr.1, 9

Why aren't Tailor Brands or Northwest on this list?

Neither includes the EIN in a plan we compare. Tailor Brands sells an EIN filing service without a published price, and Northwest Registered Agent sells it separately at $50 (with SSN). The Northwest review covers its formation plan.16

Which service gets an EIN without a Social Security number?

Northwest Registered Agent lists a service for owners without an SSN at $200 without SSN, and LegalZoom and doola say they handle it too. BizFilings' EIN service needs an SSN or ITIN. The IRS also takes applications from abroad by phone, fax or mail at no charge.16

Does a single-member LLC need its own EIN?

Under IRS rules it needs one if it has employees or files certain excise tax forms; otherwise it generally uses the owner's number for income tax. The EIN guide covers the details.
